Rafa (Comandante HI) is a 17 year old Lusitano and a spicy FEI dressage schoolmaster. Emily describes herself as the timid rider in the partnership. Rafa is the brave one. He has taken her to shows, out on trails and through her Bronze Medal, and he makes every bit of it fun.
Emily told me before the session that she never felt Rafa had a very long neck. The black background told a different story. His portraits show a strong, beautiful arch, and it was a good reminder of why I love fine art equine portraits. They let you see a horse you know well in a new way.
A Fine Art Barn Day at Dressage Solutions
Rafa’s session was part of a full Barn Day at Dressage Solutions. I set up the black background fine art studio in the barn aisle, and the women of the barn took turns helping each other with their horses. It was a great day with a ton of laughs, camaraderie, and shared love of all the horses in the barn.

Thank you, Emily, for sharing Rafa with me.
