Michaela was a fairly new boarder at Norwegian Hill Farm in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, where I board my two horses. When she asked about her first professional family photos with her husband and their baby daughter, she wanted something natural and a little bit Midwest, and the farm was the perfect fit.
Golden Hour at Norwegian Hill Farm
We started the afternoon with black background portraits of Poppy, Michaela’s Thoroughbred mare, in the barn, then headed out into the fields on a beautiful October evening, with the grasses turning gold and the trees just starting to change colour. The light was soft and warm, and it wrapped around the three of them as they walked, laughed, and played together.

Their daughter was the star of the show, whether she was being tossed into the air by her dad, snuggled between her parents, or giving the camera her very best baby smile. Some of my favourite images are the quiet in-between moments: a kiss on the cheek, a shared laugh, and the way Michaela and her husband look at their little girl.

Michaela, thank you for trusting me with your first family photos. I loved every minute of watching the three of you together!
