Christina brought two horses to our fine art Barn Day at Dressage Solutions in Eagle, Wisconsin, and she wanted to capture the spirit of each one. Indy, her Friesian, has his own post. This one is all about Felicia, better known as Queenie.
A Hanoverian Made for the Camera
Queenie is a four year old Hanoverian, and she is gigantic, yet every inch of her is feminine. She has a very kind, soft presence, and she absolutely understood the assignment when it came to posing. It is like she was made for the show ring and for the camera.
She is Christina’s baby, and her barn name could not suit her better. Queenie has a regal personality to match, and it comes through in every portrait. Her dark bay coat is so glossy that it picks up every bit of light in the studio, from the highlights along her neck and shoulder to the shine on her hindquarters.
A black background suits a dark horse beautifully. Instead of getting lost, her coat glows against the black, and the details stand out: the shape of her head, the sparkle of her crystal browband, and most of all, her sweet, kind eye. It says everything about who she is, and it was the first thing I noticed when she stepped into the studio.

Christina wanted a couple of images for her new office, and Queenie gave us plenty to choose from, with close portraits and full-length poses that will look stunning on the wall next to Indy’s. Have a few friends at your barn who would love portraits too? Find out how Barn Day mini sessions work.
More from This Barn Day
Queenie shared the studio with some wonderful horses that day. Meet Indy, Christina’s six year old Friesian, Rafacito, Megan’s young palomino Lusitano, Rafa, Emily’s Lusitano FEI dressage schoolmaster, and Orion and Bana, Paula’s Percheron cross and Tempel Farms Lipizzan stallion. And Maestoso Gradita, a Lipizzan stallion from the Tempel Lipizzans. And meet Jed, Megan’s KWPN-NA Dutch Warmblood. Plus Maestoso Batosta, a Lipizzan stallion from the Tempel Lipizzans.
Christina, I loved getting to know Felicia, and I can say with certainty that she is absolutely a queen of queens. Thank you for trusting me with both of your horses.
