When a good friend’s horse steps into the mobile studio, it is a little extra special. That was the case with Z Holiday of Legend Woods, known as Holli or Holiday, at the 2024 IDCTA Summer Kickoff at Silverwood Farm in Camp Lake, Wisconsin.
Meet Holli, a Friesian Cross Mare
Holli was bred by Legend Woods Friesian Sport Horses. She is by the Friesian stallion Zero Gravity out of Harley, a Thoroughbred and Percheron mare, a cross that gives her the presence of a Friesian with extra refinement and power from her dam’s side. Foaled in 2004, she is a bay with a white star.
She is owned and loved by my good friend Tina and boarded at Norwegian Hill Farm, the same barn that bred Jameson NHF. Holli is very kind and willing, and she is a true all-around mare. Tina rides her western as well as in dressage, and dressage is where Holli really shines.
A Partnership Built in the Dressage Ring
Holli is exceptionally skilled at dressage, and she and Tina have competed together at the USDF Regional Championships and the US Dressage Finals. They are a beautiful partnership, and it shows every time they come down the centerline.
Tina is always remarking on Holli’s beautiful mane and tail and her dappled coat, and show day proved her right. A long running braid followed the full curve of her neck, finished with a crystal browband, and the studio lights brought out every dapple and copper highlight in her bay coat.

Against the white background, there is nothing to distract from her. From the full-length portrait to the close-up of her arched neck, these images are pure Holli: elegant, kind, and every bit the mare Tina knows and loves.
Tina, thank you for trusting me with your girl. Getting Holli in front of my camera was such a joy, and I hope these portraits make you smile every time you see them.
